When his father dies 30 year old Bartek struggles to make sense of life. Inspired by his father’s unrealised dream he leaves his family and travels to the Ulthima Thule - “furthest point” - Foula, a remote Scottish island (where Michael Powell filmed The Edge of the World). Here he is forced to confront both solitude and the power of nature.
Chrostowski’s striking, minimalist feature debut explores the importance of honest human relationships. A compelling performance from Jakub Gierszał sits at the centre of this contemplative film, which won the Best Micro Budget Film Award at Gdynia Festival 2023.
This film wouldn't exist if it weren't for the great role of Jakub Gierszał, who plays here against the emploi. He is the furthest thing from the elegant spy he was in "Doppelganger". Here he is lost, unshaven and covered in peat. In terms of the scale of emotions he has to express, this role is no less than the challenge he once faced in "Suicide Room". Jakub Gierszał also appears in a new role for him - co-producer of the film. The main character's relationship with Magnus who lives at the island in the middle of nowhere, is very important. Interestingly, it's not an actor, but an islander who agreed to let the crew come and record in exchange for help in the field - just like in the movie.
Film is directed by Klaudiusz Chrostowski, a graduate of the Łódź Film School and the University of Fine Arts in London.
The screening will be followed by an online, live Q&A.
