This 2013 film starring Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks, Colin Farrell, and Paul Giamatti, tells the story of Walt Disney’s attempts to persuade P. L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins, to allow him to adapt her book to the screen. This film reveals a deeper and more richly textured background to the beloved Disney classic film, and Thompson’s performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
