About this Event
In a programme titled Seasons of Displacement and Return, we will be screening four short films echoing the cycles of disruption, violence, and return that Lebanon endures at the hands of imperial Zionism.
We’ll also be hosting a raffle, with plenty of incredible prizes up for grabs. Raffle tickets will be for sale at the event so come prepared to buy some tickets! Prizes so far include some tickets to Falastin Film Festival 2026 (of course), a voucher for yoga classes at Lila Yoga, Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign merch, tickets to CinemaAttic's Latin Connections Film Festival, and a pair of tickets to a screening at the Filmhouse, with more to be confirmed!
All proceeds will go to the Roots of Resistance collective who, in collaboration with Buzuruna Juzuruna, are currently working to fundraise and support displaced individuals across Beirut, Saida, and Baalbak, focusing their reach on marginalized communities who are more likely to fall through the cracks of institutional aid provision (ie. migrant workers, Palestinian or Syrian refugees, those displaced in informal shelters). You can follow their efforts through their Instagram page, @roots.of.r3sistance.

About the films
Forced to Flee South Lebanon | dir. Hussein Bassal | 25'
When 26-year-old Hussein chose to be a video journalist, he never imagined he’d be documenting his own family's journey through displacement. Between South Lebanon and Beirut, he covers the ongoing Israeli war on his country, capturing exclusive footage despite safety threats and the devastation caused by continuous bombings.
Beyond telling the stories of those displaced by the war, Hussein’s mission is deeply personal. He aims to capture and preserve Lebanon's day-to-day life for his nephews and niece, who are forced to flee Lebanon and leave their lives behind.
Buffer Zone | dir. Farrah Berrou | 18'
In this short film, which is part-documentary and part-memoir, Farrah Berrou takes us to her ancestral border village of Kfarkila in southern Lebanon for the first time since October 8, 2023, the same day that Lebanon became a support-front to Gaza and Palestine in a post-October 7th world.
Evacuate or Die | dir. Elias Hissa | 20'
As danger closes in, “Alaa” is forced to leave his lifelong home in Beirut’s southern suburb. Now, living in a modest rented house, with nothing to do and nowhere to go due to the war. He becomes obsessed with the news, and his anxiety grows between the escalating aggressions on his country and the fear of losing the family home his father once entrusted to him.
A Dream Pointing to Aadchit | dir. Ghinwa Yassine | 18'
A Dream Pointing to Aadchit is an experimental documentary, or an anti-archive, created during a short-lived ceasefire in the south of Lebanon and documenting the director's family home that was hit during the war. Filmed through a non-anthropocentric gaze, the film looks at land as a place of death and renewal. It explores love and loss while giving space for the land to speak.
