Film Birmingham and Sloss Furnaces Present- The Magic City: Birmingham According to Sun Ra
Please join us for a very special evening of cinema at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark on Thursday, April 2nd as we present the "official" Alabama debut of the documentary The Magic City: Birmingham According to Sun Ra as part of the ongoing Year of Birmingham Jazz initiative celebrating our city's contributions to the genre.
Following on the heels of the unofficial debut at last year's Sidewalk Film Festival prior to the movie's completion, we thought it would be fun to bring directors Pablo Gaurise and Guillaume Maupin back to Birmingham to show off their finished product and discuss Sun Ra's relationship with his home town prior to becoming a world-renowned artist, as well as the making of the film, the Magic City's contributions to its success, and how other aspiring filmmakers can get involved telling great stories about our community and its history and culture.
The screening is free and open to the public and will be shown underneath the water tower on the north side of the Sloss Furnaces campus.
Doors are at 7, the film starts at 8, and will be followed by a special Q&A session with the directors.
Come experience the musical magic of one of Birmingham's favorites sons and one of its most iconic landmarks!!!
