About this Event

Join us on Wednesday, September 17 at 7:00PM for our first screening of the Film at The Africa Center Fall 2025 series where we'll present Sudan, Remember Us (feature), Is It War? (short) and Bougainvillea (short) in partnership with African Film Festival, Inc. (AFF) and co-presented by Sarra + Selma Idris Present.

Approximate Runtime: 99 minutes

Please note: Sudan, Remember Us is a documentary feature with real footage from the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Viewers may find the content to be sensitive and/or triggering.

The Films:

Sudan, Remember Us (dir. Hind Meddeb) – A powerful portrait of a generation that chose poetry over silence and imagination over fear. Shajane, Maha, Muzamil, Khatab, and the voice of poet Chaikhoon form a cinematic chorus—young, politically defiant, and artistically fearless. In their twenties, they stand at the front lines of a revolution, confronting a corrupted army and paramilitary militias responsible for brutal war crimes in Darfur, Kordofan, and Blue Nile. They could have lost hope before they even began. Instead, through chants, poems, and dreams, they built a movement that helped topple a regime. Blending intimate storytelling with sweeping political urgency, Sudan, Remember Us captures the uneven struggle between the fire of militias and the unbreakable voices of the people. It’s a tribute to the power of words—and a reminder that freedom is a fight born first in the imagination. (86 min)

Is It War? (dir. Timeea Mohamed Ahmed) – In a surreal journey through a forest, an artist disconnected from his Sudanese roots grapples with the horrors of war and his fragmented identity, conveying a message of unity and despair to his scattered people. (5 min)

BougainvilleaA fictional narrative centered on a group of women imprisoned during the revolution and the community they form. Most of the story unfolds within the Pr*son walls, we hear the revolution outside, but never see it. Juxtaposing this with the real footage and chaos of Sudan, Remember Us could create a rare and powerful dialogue between fiction and documentary. (17 min)
