On November 13, at 19:00 Max Weber Stiftung - Georgian Branch Office will host the lecture: "Film and History: From Research to Fiction."The Lecture by Katharina Wyss (Writer-Director, Vienna, www.amancalledlucy.com www.sarahjoueunloupgarou.ch)
What challenges do screenwriters face when fictionalising historical material? How can the dialogue between filmmakers and historians contribute to taking new perspectives on the past, the present and the writing of stories and history?
Based on the actual research and script development of a feature film project about the German publisher, resistance fighter, intelligence man and journalist Rudolf Rössler (1897-1958), who was forced to leave Berlin for Switzerland in the 1930s due to his anti-Nazi stance, selected finds from archives, literature and film are used to examine how an unpopular contemporary was sidelined by state actors long after wartime.
The central dramaturgy of the feature film script is based on recent publications by historians who were able to access the documents proving this abuse of power thanks to the opening of the relevant secret service archives. At the core of this lies the question how the former Nazi perpetrators succeeded in making the resistance disappear through character assassination when they returned to positions of power.
