🚨EVENT DESCRIPTION🚨
Since the 1960's West Papua has been brutally occupied by Indonesia. The US and Australia, uphold this occupation through strategic military support. Foreign journalists are barred from entering and reporting on the commonplace violence, extraction and displacement.
The Gecko Project, a non-profit newsroom has released a new short film - Papuan Skies - detailing the consequences of Indonesia's food estate project - which is a continuation of the brutal occupation, and its assault on land and people.
Under the so-called Merauke food estate project, agribusiness giants have secured 3 million hectares of land for clearing. This could directly affect more than 50,000 Indigenous people living in 40 villages around and within the project area.
Join us at Resistance Bookshop for a screening of the Gecko Project's short film followed by a panel discussion with researchers and activists.
Entry by donation, tasty affordable meal. Proceeds to Green Left and Free West Papua campaign
