Did you know that one of Maine’s oldest artist-owned studio buildings is right around the corner in South Portland?Join us during Maine Pottery Tour weekend at Sawyer Street Studios for a behind-the-scenes studio tour, artist talk, and close look at local history with Lynn Duryea and Sharon Townshend.
You’ll spend an hour with each artist in their studio as they share insights into their professional ceramics practices and demonstrate one of their signature techniques. You’ll see how everything is set up and ask all your questions about why their studios are designed the way they are.
After the studio sessions, we’ll gather as a group to learn about the history of Sawyer Street Studios. Abby Huntoon and Louise Bilodeau, the two additional partners, will join the conversation. You’ll hear stories of its evolution (over nearly 40 years!), the changes and evolutions it has seen, and the lessons learned from operating a long-standing, artist-owned building.
This workshop is open to everyone! Whether you’re a local history enthusiast, a potter dreaming of a home studio, or an artist interested in starting a shared creative space of your own, we’d love to have you join us. (Size is limited based on studio space!)
