Trip/area Description: Guide Lani will lead a walk on the Green Trail through stands of open grassy forests of Longleaf pine, wiregrass and saw palmetto. The Park preserves these habitats that were once commonplace throughout Florida. The pine flatwoods form a backdrop for other biological communities, including cypress domes, scrubby flatwoods, scrub, sandhills and a beautiful strand swamp. These habitats are home to many native plants and animals, including Florida Scrub Jays, Red-cockaded Woodpeckers, Bachmanโs Sparrows and Brown-headed Nuthatches.
Duration of trip: 2-3 hours
Walking distance: 1-2 miles
Degree of difficulty: Bring water, snacks, sunscreen and a hat. Trail will be grassy and possibly uneven in areas.
Where to meet: Meet at the Park office/visitor center at Road 507 north of Fellsmere across from the entrance road to the Stick Marsh. Exit I-95 at SR 512 and go through Fellsmere to reach Road 507, go north to the park and take a right turn after crossing the C-54 Canal.
