Join Josh Rose and Sam McGullam as we look for migrating waterfowl and grassland birds in the North Quabbin region. We’ll meet at 8:00 am at Orange Municipal Airport (80 Airport St, Orange, MA), where we'll be on the lookout for American Pipit, Horned Lark, and Northern Harrier. From there, we’ll carpool to Lake Mattawa and Branch Bridge, which play host to impressive flocks of waterfowl in early spring. Highlights may include Ring-necked Duck, Greater and Lesser Scaup, Wood Duck, Hooded Merganser, and Bufflehead.
Carpooling is strongly recommended, as many of the locations have limited space for parking and maneuvering. Roads are dirt or gravel and may be muddy and uneven. There are no sitting areas, but we’ll be birding near our vehicles and any distances walked will be very short and on dirt/gravel roads. There are no restrooms at our birding sites, but we will make rest stops as needed and will stop for lunch at a spot with facilities a few hours later. Bring water, snacks, a scope if you have one, and dress warmly for early spring conditions. Limited to 10 participants. Register online. (E)
