Trip/area Description: The 16.5-acre Preserve was purchased by the County in 2008 and was part of the original Jones homestead. The County intends the property to provide passive recreation including walking trails and wetland viewing, create and restore wetlands, saltmarsh and uplands to treat stormwater runoff into the Lagoon, provide habitat for wildlife and aquatic species, and educate the public on conservation and sustainability. We may see characteristic wildlife species such as Osprey, various wading birds and waterfowl, fishes and crabs, as well as native plant species.
This is an ideal trip for new members and beginning birders to learn to identify common, characteristic birds of the local area.
Duration of trip: 1.5 hours
Walking distance: About 0.5 miles or less
Degree of difficulty: Easy walking along hardpacked trail.
