Trip/area Description: Joe Overstreet Landing has a boat ramp, camping spots, restrooms and a small store on Lake Kissimmee, west of Vero Beach. There are some Bald Eagle and Osprey nests near the roads along the way, as well as Crested Caracaras along SR 60. Keep your eyes peeled. On the drive to the Landing, Guide Lani will look for Red-headed Woodpecker, Bobwhite Quail, Florida Sandhill Crane, Wild Turkey, Eastern Meadowlark, Bald Eagle, Crested Caracara and Loggerhead Shrike. Small flocks of Palm Warblers and Savannah Sparrows will be present along road shoulders with the occasional House Wren and Gray Catbird. At the end of the sandy road, check the boat ramp area and marsh for Limpkins and ibis. Bring along a spotting scope to search for Snail Kites, which cruise over Lake Kissimmee in search of apple snails.

Walking distance: Minimal
Degree of difficulty: Most birding will be from the car and along the lakeshore. Bring lunch and eat at the lake.
Where you’d like participants to meet: We will meet at 7:00 am at the IHOP at 8800 20th St. to make the 1.5-hour drive to Joe Overstreet near Keenansville. Trip is limited to 20 people.
