About this Event
Gabrielle Macrae will be teaching an old time fiddle workshop with a focus on rhythm and bowing technique. We'll learn some bowing patterns and tunes from Western North Carolina's elder fiddler Esker Hutchins who was a mentor to Benton Flippen, and maybe touch on some of the technique and repertoire of Jim Bowls, of Monroe Co, Kentucky. Let's get into some gritty, obscure old tunes that are super fun in a jam. We'll also just have fun playing our fiddles together!
Barry Southern will teach a workshop on old time clawhammer banjo, focusing on spicing up your playing while accompanying a fiddler. You'll learn new techniques within the context of some fun tunes that are a part of the Horsenecks' repertoire. We'll make sure and play them in the jam later that night at the Queen City Music Studios Weekly Monday Night Old Time Jam!
