This virtual workshop aims to give participants techniques on how to generate material for the page or stage based on our personal stories. Using simple writing exercises designed to unearth what tales we hold inside, we will then build on those ideas and add fiction to create a text that can be shared with readers or an audience.
About the facilitator:
Anna Chatterton is a playwright, librettist and performer based in Hamilton and best known for riveting female-focused works. Chatterton is the Mabel Pugh Taylor Writer in Residence at McMaster University for the 2024-25 year. She is a two-time finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama. Her published writing includes the plays Within the Glass, Quiver, Cowgirl Up, Gertrude and Alice and upcoming Children of Fire (non-fiction). Anna's work has been produced across Canada and the United States and has won an LA Independent Women Film Award for ‘Best Narrative Feature' (Sweat); and been nominated for a Juno Award (Breathe). Anna is the winner of a City of Hamilton Arts Award and a Toronto Theatre Critics Award, and has been a finalist for a Hamilton Literary Award for Fiction, and five Dora Mavor Moore Awards, winning one. Anna has been in residence at seven theatres.
