Fiber Workshop with Kandy G Lopez

This event will begin with an artist led walk through of her current exhibition followed by a two hour class exploring methods and techniques for fiber portraits. The event is free and all supplies will be provided. Limited to 25 participants. Registration is essential.

About The Artist

Kandy G Lopez is an Afro-Caribbean American portrait artist who is known for creating complex multimedia portraits in fiber.

Lopez received her BFA and BS from the University of South Florida and her MFA from Florida Atlantic University in 2014. She has taught at Florida Atlantic University, Daytona State College and is currently teaching at the Halmos College of Art & Sciences at NOVA Southeastern University.

Lopez has had numerous solo and group exhibitions across North America, including recently at the Orlando Museum of Art in Florida where she received the 2025 People’s Choice Award. This fall, Lopez presented her first international solo exhibition at the Florence Fondation in Paris, as well museum shows at Ringling College of Art + Design, Armory Art Center, and North Dakota Museum of Art. Lopez’s second solo exhibition at ACA Galleries titled, Textile Truths: Faces of Resilience, is on view through January 17th, 2026.

Lopez has created her own unique media - portraits woven with thread which the artist calls "fiber paintings." Her portraits depict friends, family and others and give voice to their stories and experiences as people of color.
