Fet Gede Ancestral drumming: A vibrant rhythmic celebration honoring the spirits of the dead in Haitian Vodou tradition. The Fet Gede festival holds profound significance as it honours Haitian culture, heritage, and the reverence for ancestors. Reflecting on the triumph of the 2023 Fet Gede, where distinguished talents like Riva Nyri and Ted Beaubrun graced our event alongside esteemed academic guests, the celebration garnered unparalleled praise and recognition.
Our 2023 Fet Gede, themed "Feast of the Ancestors," pulsated with vibrant energy and artistic excellence. Attendees immersed themselves in captivating dance workshops, vibrant arts and crafts, and an atmosphere rich with cultural heritage. The collaborative spirit among artists, academics, and cultural enthusiasts cultivated an unforgettable experience.
This year, our theme for the 2024 Fet Gede celebration is "Ancestral Drums." We aspire to delve deeper into the cultural significance of traditional drumming in honouring our ancestors, promising an immersive experience for all attendees.
Moreover, we are excited to introduce arts and crafts stalls for our performers, offering them a platform to showcase and sell their creations. In addition to this, we plan to host a talk at the university, an art exhibition, drum and dance workshops, a book signing event by Erol Josue (haitian Vodou priest), and a meet-and-greet, enriching the overall experience.
The event is scheduled to take place in the vibrant city of Leeds, located in the North of the UK.
