About this Event
This class explores feminine archetypes in Slavic folklore as a living system of initiation, transformation, and survival. Through stories such as Vasilisa and Baba Yaga, as well as figures like the wise old woman, the trickster, the devouring mother, and the shapeshifting heroine, students will be guided through the symbolic patterns that shape women’s journeys across myth and culture. Rather than approaching these archetypes as abstract ideas, the class situates them within their historical, ritual, and cultural contexts, while also examining how they continue to appear in contemporary life.
Date: Thursday, July 2nd
Event: 6 - 8 PM PDT
Location: Seagrape Apothecary & Zoom
Students can expect a structured yet accessible experience that combines storytelling, visual material (including folklore illustrations, historical references, and comparative mythology), and guided reflection. The class will introduce key frameworks for understanding archetypes, while remaining grounded in Slavic traditions and their specific meanings. Throughout the session, participants will be invited to engage with the material through prompts that encourage personal interpretation and connection.
By the end of the class, students will leave with a deeper understanding of six core feminine archetypes and how they function as stages of transformation rather than fixed roles. Participants will also develop their own working relationship to these archetypes, with practical ways to recognize and apply them in their lives, creative practices, or spiritual frameworks. No prior knowledge is required.
