On Saturday, October 18, discover the history of the free and enslaved community of Black ship caulkers who lived and worked in Fell’s Point during the 19th century. This walking tour explores the vibrant community they built, the critical role they played in Baltimore’s shipbuilding industry, and the monopoly they held on the trade during the 1840s and 1850s.
By visiting sites of importance to their story, you will learn about the lives of individual caulkers, their acts of resistance against oppression and institutionalized racism, and the lasting impact of their struggle for freedom and equality.
The tours will start at 10:30 am and 1:00 pm at the Ship Caulkers' Houses (612 S Wolfe St) and last about 1 hour 15 minutes, rain or shine. Bring your walking shoes and see Fell's Point in a whole new light!
