Join us at Gilliam's Garden as we help lay a mulched path to increase accessibility on the farm
About this Event

FeedATL is a weekly program taking place all Summer long, made possible by our partnership with the Food Well Alliance. We will be working with a hand-picked cohort of urban farmers who work hard everyday to bolster Atlanta's local food ecosystem.

For Part 4, we will head back to Gilliam's Community Garden in Oakland City for a morning of forging new paths and forging new friendships. You'll learn about the important work this organization is doing to supply healthy and fresh food to local residents, you'll get your hands dirty in the gardens, and you'll get to meet like-minded folks in a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere.

For the service part...

We will kick off the morning with a 30 minute "Movement in the Meadow" yoga class to get us all warmed up, feeling limber and grounding us before we break ground on the farm. This will be led by Jess Pfeffer of Real Connections SoFla.

Then we will be focused on helping lay the groundwork for a mulched walking path to improve general accessibility and encourage neighbors to engage with new areas of the farm. We may do some other cool tasks around the farms as well, like helping construct a new frame for vine-y plants (think cucumbers, etc). No skills required, but come ready to sweat!

Event will kick off with yoga at 9am and we'll start working around 9:45am.

For the social part...

When we finish working, we will head around the corner to the Wild Heaven Brewery in the West End for lunch and a cold drink. Your first drink will be on us, to thank you for your hard work in the morning!

Ready to sign up?

With space being limited, we do ask that you register if you plan to attend. It's free to participate, and you are welcome to make a donation at checkout if you're able. These funds help us cover extra programming expenses and keep our events top-notch for everyone.

Your ticket will include all the supplies to make this an extra enjoyable event, plus a drink ticket at the brewery and a professionally-guided yoga class. That's the Service Made Social way!

About the FeedATL Program

Each week, we will be onsite at one of the selected farms on a rotating basis, so we can serve each farmer in a variety of ways throughout the season. You do not need to commit to any more than a single workday, but we hope you do return if you have a good time! You'll see progress week-to-week, and you'll get to know some pretty inspiring local farmers!

Mission-Aligned Volunteering That Promises Smiles

Our mission is to cultivate local community connections through social volunteering, and that's exactly what you can expect when you attend. Every project will feature components of learning, of service, and of having fun while meeting new people.

Many urban farms around Atlanta struggle to keep up with the growing demand for healthy, locally grown foods. This includes a lack of manpower to operate and get work done on the farm. Volunteers can help fill this gap and add capacity to a farm, but managing volunteers is also a time-consuming task. Community Bucket partners with these farmers to deliver volunteers like you and create a memorable experience that will keep you wanting more.
