Be among the first to explore Fedian Nature Reserve, our newest reserve near Derrygonnelly, on a guided summer walk with our wildlife and farming specialists Giles Knight and Dr Peter McEvoy. Explore wildflower meadows, hedgerows, and ancient woodland, on this 90 acre snapshot of pre-industrial farmland, and spot some of the reserve’s amazing wildlife.Look out for butterflies like the endangered marsh fritillary and locally rare dingy skipper, swathes of stunning orchids, and listen for woodcock and songbirds. You’ll also learn about the reserve’s more elusive wildlife, including red squirrels, pine martens, and otters, and hear the story of how this unique place was saved for nature.
Our guides will share insights into how careful habitat management helps wildlife thrive, while you enjoy spectacular views across Lower Lough Erne.
* Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for an outdoor event. Hiking boots or wellingtons are recommended along with long sleeves and trousers, to reduce risk from ticks.
* The walk will be no longer than 3 miles on uneven, mucky terrain with some steep inclines.
* From the meeting point, we will car share/travel in convoy to the nature reserve.
This event is exclusively for Ulster Wildlife members. When booking, you will be asked to provide evidence of your membership. A waiting list is available and you will be notified if a place becomes available.
