Fed by the Medway: A Candlelit Dinner with a Raffle & Fireside Music
An Invitation
We warmly invite you to a candle-lit meal, thoughtfully prepared and shared in good company, followed by a raffle and evening of fireside music, featuring live harp, bouzouki, and folk performances (weather permitting).
This gathering is a celebration of the food that is nurtured by the Medway's waters, while also being a fundraiser for Friends of the River Medway, supporting our work to deepen our connection with the river, protect her health, and inspire stewardship across the basin.
Your presence and contributions will help us:
- Expand our citizen science network across the catchment
- Support regenerative farming practices that nurture the soil and waterways
- Engage schools and children in meaningful encounters with the river
- Continue our pilgrimage legacy through film and shared storytelling
- Host more events that celebrate and care for this living river
To make this event accessible to all, we’re offering a sliding scale of £35-£95 per person. Please give generously according to your means - every contribution directly supports this vital work and helps sustain our collective care for the Medway.

A Note on Ingredients
This dinner is an act of devotion to the Medway Basin and the life it sustains. Each dish will be crafted from local, organic, and regenerative ingredients, grown and gathered with care from farms and landscapes nourished by the Medway’s flow.
We are grateful to the many farmers, growers, and friends who have contributed their produce to support this cause. As we share this meal, we also celebrate our interdependence with the land and water that feed us. This is food fed by the Medway, offered back in gratitude.
Sample Menu
Spiced Butternut Squash Soup. Silky roasted butternut squash infused with warming spices, finished with a drizzle of herb oil.
Served with sourdough or home-made buckwheat focaccia (GF)
Mains
Chilli con Carne. Slow-cooked beef chilli simmered with spices and fire-roasted tomatoes;
Mushroom, Lentil & Smoked Tomato Ragù (Vegan). Earthy mushrooms and puy lentils braised with smoked tomatoes, thyme, and red wine.
Sides
Zesty Tahini Slaw. Crunchy vegetables tossed in a bright citrus-tahini dressing.
Cumin-Roasted Root Vegetables. Earthy roots caramelized with cumin and a hint of maple.
Cornbread with Smoked Sea Salt Butter. Warm, golden cornbread served with whipped smoked sea salt butter.
Dessert
Warm Apple Pie. Spiced apples baked in a flaky pastry crust, served with creamy vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of homemade dulce de leche.
