Billy Sveen, MD, MA, will build an argument for captive equivalence as a minimal standard for captive herpetofauna. (This approach promotes animals thriving rather than just surviving in captivity.)
Sveen is a pediatric ICU doctor and bioethicist at the University of Minnesota who has been keeping reptiles and amphibians since childhood. Since becoming more involved in herpetoculture in recent years, he has been tapping his academic work in ethics to inform how he cares for his animals.
