Featured Artists Kaori Jackson and Sunhee Shin will be exhibiting and demonstrating their art 2 – 8 February in the Joan Hardey Gallery in the Dunedin Railway Station.More about Kaori Jackson:
I am an Otago based New Zealand wildlife artist. Living in a silver beech nature reserve on the outskirts of Dunedin, with a love of birds and flowers, my theme of artworks is predominantly New Zealand forest native birds influenced by my surroundings.
More about Sunhee Shin:
I am originally from Seoul, Korea and I am a now a self-taught oil painter based in Port Chalmers, Dunedin. I’m drawn to oil painting for its slow process. I often work on board, which allows me to build texture more easily than canvas.
My themes develop over time, but they are mostly rooted in personal experiences of living in New Zealand. I enjoy layering paint to create depth and a quiet complexity. Much of my inspiration comes from landscapes, urban solitude, and everyday life—especially in places where I’ve worked, such as Doubtful Sound, Queenstown, and Manapouri.
