We’re delighted to announce that Nkem Okwechime will be our Featured Artist at Glasgow Print Studio this June, running alongside this year’s Glasgow International Festival programme This marks Okwechime’s first solo exhibition in Glasgow since 2023, bringing together a major new body of work developed over the past 12 months. The exhibition includes works produced during a residency with National Museums Scotland, alongside pieces from the ‘Okolo’ installation presented last summer and new additions created this year.
Okwechime’s practice explores identity, perception and diasporic experience through printmaking and expanded material approaches. His current work enters a more focused and research-driven phase, shaped by archive visits, travel-based research and sustained experimentation in the studio.
At the centre of this development is Okolo - an alter ego through which the work navigates psychological states, projection, and the tension between internal identity and external perception.
Rooted in personal and cultural experiences spanning the UK and West Africa, the work reflects on layered ideas of place, memory and self-definition. This exhibition offers an early insight into a deeper ongoing investigation, marking a significant point in the evolution of the practice and a clear direction into new work for 2026.
Preview: 5-8pm, Thursday 04 June 2026
exhibition runs until Saturday 27th June
