Gain practical skills in wildlife monitoring in this interactive workshop! Learn how to set up song meters, bat detectors, and wildlife cameras to monitor birds, frogs, microbats, and other native and introduced animals along the Darebin Creek. Enjoy a guided session in the beautiful northern Grassy Eucalypt Woodlands and Wollert creek corridor.What you’ll learn:
How to operate different monitoring devices and configure them for optimal results
Tips for targeting specific animals and adapting to different landscapes
Hands-on practice setting up the equipment in the field
Practical details:
Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots and dress for the weather (sun hat, rain jacket, etc.)
Bring plenty of drinking water
The session involves up to 2 hours of walking on uneven terrain and slopes
Bookings are required - Meeting point will be provided to registered participants closer to the day
This workshop also provides training for volunteer monitoring opportunities, but participation in volunteering is completely optional.
Optional follow-up:
For those interested, we’ll be offering a follow-up session to learn how to analyse collected data, including identifying birds, frogs, and microbats from sound recordings using specialised software.
