About this Event
Fattoria Le Pupille - Nestled in the wild landscapes of Tuscany’s Maremma, Fattoria Le Pupille began as a Gentili family farm, named “Le Pupille” for its two historic hilltop properties overlooking the Argentario Promontory. Originally devoted to wheat, olive oil, and livestock, the estate’s vineyards were modest until the 1960s, when Alfredo Gentili began producing small quantities of wine for family and friends. By 1978, he became one of the first producers of official Morellino di Scansano, guided by the vision of renowned oenologist Giacomo Tachis.
The estate’s transformation came under Elisabetta Geppetti, Gentili’s daughter-in-law. With a deep love for the land and a pioneering spirit, she worked with Tachis to graft Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Sangiovese, elevating the quality of Morellino and creating Saffredi in 1987—a Bordeaux-style blend dedicated to her late father-in-law. From its earliest vintages, Saffredi earned acclaim for its complexity and elegance, establishing Le Pupille as a leading Maremma winery.
Today, Elisabetta, supported by her children including Ettore Arturo Rizzi as production manager, continues to champion innovation and terroir-driven winemaking. Le Pupille remains committed to crafting wines of power and refinement, with Saffredi standing as a lasting symbol of the estate’s passion, vision, and pioneering legacy.
Ettore Arturo Rizzi — Son of Elisabetta Geppetti and Production Manager Born in Rome in 1997, Ettore Arturo Rizzi is part of the ownership of Fattoria Le Pupille alongside his mother, Elisabetta Geppetti, and sister Clara. As Production Manager, he coordinates work between the vineyards and cellar while overseeing supplier relationships and key aspects of production. Rizzi studied viticulture and enology between Conegliano Veneto, Grosseto, and the University of Pisa. His first vintage in a leading production role was 2019, marking the beginning of his handson involvement in shaping the estate’s evolving winemaking approach. Since then, he has focused on refining vineyard parceling to better understand and express individual sites, while also contributing to decisions around vinification and barrel selection. One example is the gradual move toward larger casks for Poggio Valente beginning in 2022, aiming to achieve greater finesse and elegance in the wines.
