About this Event
1st Annual Father & Sons Mental Health Movie Night— Creating a space for Father and Sons to share their emotions and feelings (Brought to you by and a free event due to our amazing sponsor McIntyre Group).
Cochrane, AB – March 30, 2026 – Following the overwhelming success of last year’s inaugural event, the Mental Health Movement and Performance Freight Management have listened to our guests and have created this incredible event: Father & Sons Mental Health Movie Night. The event is located at the amazing Cochrane Movie House, and they will roll out the red carpet for a powerful night of storytelling, connection, and support, capped off by an exclusive “Boys Night Out” to view the Tom Cruise movie “Top Gun - Maverick”.
This grassroots event sponsored by McIntyre Group aims to challenge the stigma surrounding Father’s and Sons mental health by combining the power of cinema with open conversation, community, and vulnerability. Last year, the event reached over 200 men — inspiring immediate moments of courage, honesty, and emotional connection.
“We saw men open up, reach out, and support one another in ways that are too rare in today’s world,” says Daryl McAvena, founder of Performance Freight Management & Mental Health Movement. “This isn’t just a movie night — it’s a movement.”
Why It Matters: The Hard Truth About Men’s Mental Health
- 3 out of 4 deaths by suicide are men
- Less than 30% of men who struggle with mental health issues ever seek help
- Only 1 in 4 men who experience anxiety or depression feel comfortable talking about it
These numbers aren’t just statistics, they represent fathers, brothers, sons, coworkers, and friends. The Men’s Mental Health Movie Night provides a safe and stigma-free space where men can start to open up, share, and realize they are not alone.
In partnership with Mental Health Movement, this year’s event will host 170+ attendees across two theatres, following the impact of last year’s 2nd Annual event where over 200 men connected through film, discussion, and raw, real vulnerability. Allowing Men to have Permission to talk about their emotions and feelings.
The evening will also feature special appearances by notable keynote speakers:
- Keon Raymond – 2x Grey Cup Champion, Calgary Stampeder, NFL Tennessee Titan and founder of Big Time Players BTP.
- Brett Gardiner – World Renowned Rodeo Announcer Keynote Speaker, High Performance coach and counsellor, founder of Chase the Good and Momentous Performance.
- Grady Gardiner – Current player for AEHL U18 Red Deer Chiefs AAA Goaltender and keynote speaker.
- Daryl McAvena – Metal Health Movement & Performance Freight Management Founder
** Close with a The Top Gun Maverick Movie**
These voices will help spark important conversations, proving that strength lies not in silence, but in speaking up.
