About this Event
Fat Writing Group is for any plus size person who wants to write! Even if you think you’re not a writer, or a "bad" writer, this group is for you. This group is a space to look inward, tell your story, find your voice, create joy and find healing through writing.
Fat Writing Group is a monthly online event for plus size writers of all experience to begin or deepen their writing practice in a supportive environment.
What to expect: Group size is limited to 25 or less and while these groups often sell out, we typically have 5-15 people attending.
We go over community guidelines and do introductions.
Writing themes/prompts are provided. Sometimes I will read a poem or paragraph to inspire us further in our prompt. We write for 3-10 minutes, come back together and share what we wrote.
Sharing is optional and no/low pressure, as is feedback on your writing. Feedback is typically others in the group commenting on a line or word that stood out in the piece, someone relating to the content of the piece and/or crying!
This is a pro-crying space as writing is part of many of our healing journeys and sometimes we write about challenging/sad/traumatic experiences.
We give content warnings before reading any piece that may contain something that could cause emotional harm to others in the group.
Community Guidelines:
Fat Girls Hiking a safer space for fat folks and people who live in marginalized identities. We don’t allow any weight loss talk, diet talk or body shaming at any of our events. Bigotry of any kind is not tolerated in any of Fat Girls Hiking’s spaces in person or online. https://fatgirlshiking.com
Please be mindful of pronouns and note that this group is open to fat folks of all genders! YAY!
