About this Event

Welcome to Fat Hikers' Club!

All bodies are good bodies – and we’re inviting folks in fat, plus size, chubby, thick, plump, & bountiful bodies to get together for our new monthly hiking series! This event will be hosted by Tianna (they/them), Program Manager at the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library (OOGL).

About this hike

This hike will be our Pride edition! We're asking allies to sit this one out so we can create some intentional space for fat 2SLGBTQIA+ folks during Ottawa Pride Month. Thanks for understanding! Catch us for our next hike on September 13th!

The trail we'll be enjoying is called Stonebridge Trail. The trail is an "out n' back" trail that takes 50 minutes to complete. You can review the route here.

To reach the specific trailhead where we'll begin our hike, use the following coordinates in your GPS: 45.26209, -75.72772

We encourage folks to bring the following items so they can enjoy the hike:
  • Water bottle
  • Lunch / snacks
  • Hat
  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Light backpack
  • Mobility aid (if needed)
  • Identification books (optional)

The following will be available for use in limited quantities:
  • Hiking shoes
  • Hiking poles
  • Identification books

Accessibility

This trail starts in a public park with a paved path. As we enter the forest, the dirt trail is mostly flat featuring a few slight gradual inclines and declines. There is 1 set of stairs (15 stairs) that leads to a wooden bridge. Expect to encounter roots, rocks, and plant debris (i.e., fallen twigs, sticks, or branches) on the path.

Porta-potties are available at the side of the park's soccer field. You can use them before we begin or after we finish the hike.

This hiking trail is transit accessible via the following OC Transpo routes: 75; 275; 279; 305.

Parking is available for free on-site.

About OOGL

The Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library is dedicated to providing equitable access to nature-based experiences, land-based programming, and outdoor recreation.

We aim to serve people living with low incomes, racialized communities, 2SLGBTQ+ people, newcomers, youth, and anyone else who experiences barriers to outdoor activity.

We operate on the principle that systemic barriers should not prevent access to outdoor play and activity. Everyone deserves to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of outdoor recreation.

No one who wishes to borrow gear will be turned away, however we encourage folks who have the financial resources to support a small business via gear rental to do so. Alternatively, you can donate to our organization when borrowing gear if you have the means.
