About this Event

Welcome to Fat Hikers' Club!

All bodies are good bodies – and we’re inviting folks in fat, plus size, chubby, thick, plump, & bountiful bodies to get together for our new monthly hiking series! This event will be hosted by Tianna (they/them), Program Manager at the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library (OOGL).

About this hike

The trail we'll be enjoying is called Lime Kiln Trail on Moodie Drive. The trail is a loop that typically takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete. You can review the route here.

We encourage folks to bring the following items so they can enjoy the hike:

  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Light backpack
  • Mobility aid (if needed)
  • Identification books (optional)

Accessibility

This trail is a mostly flat dirt path featuring a few slight gradual inclines and declines. Expect to encounter roots, rocks, and plant debris (i.e., fallen twigs, sticks, or branches) on the path.

Bathrooms are available at the beginning of the trail.

The closest transit lines to this trail are OC Transpo routes: 110; 256. However, the nearest bus stop is still a 30-40 minute walk from the trail head.

Parking is available for free on-site, but may be limited depending on how busy the trail is that day.

About OOGL

The Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library is dedicated to providing equitable access to nature-based experiences, land-based programming, and outdoor recreation.

We aim to serve people living with low incomes, racialized communities, 2SLGBTQ+ people, newcomers, youth, and anyone else who experiences barriers to outdoor activity.

We operate on the principle that systemic barriers should not prevent access to outdoor play and activity. Everyone deserves to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of outdoor recreation.

No one who wishes to borrow gear will be turned away, however we encourage folks who have the financial resources to support a small business via gear rental to do so. Alternatively, you can donate to our organization when borrowing gear if you have the means.
