Ready to do some urban gardening this spring? FARMsterdammers is back!!Save the date: Saturday 24 May 2025.
Pick up your vegetable plants in the streets of Amsterdam. Lots of free plants in your area for you to grow at home. Let’s do some urban gardening!
Besides, this year we are joining the Sunflower Protest (@Zonnebloemprotest)!!! Please see more info below.
On Saturday 24 May, starting at 10 am, plants will be placed at various locations across the city (stay tuned for the map on our website coming soon!), inviting you to bring them home and watch them flourish.
Whether you have a spacious garden or just a cozy windowsill, there's plenty of room for everyone to join in the green fun and There's no excuse not to have a go!
We hope this initiative will inspire you to start growing your own vegetables and flowers and foster a deeper connection to the cycles of the natural world as you nurture them from seed to plant, and cultivate new relationships with the people you meet along the way.
So far we are a small group of people preparing extra plants for sharing, which we hope will help a few families in some neighborhoods of Amsterdam to start growing their own veggies. In previous years we managed to have around 20 locations throughout the city that serve as a swapping location. Some even host workshops on various gardening topics, including planting seedlings, the role of gardening in food sovereignty, and the importance of balcony flowers in biodiversity.
We need your help to make this seedling circus a success! Join us in growing plants to share with others. Perhaps you've even swapped some seeds at Reclaim the Seeds Amsterdam that you can now plant into the soil, keeping the cycle of giving and sharing alive. On Saturday 24 May, you can then explore our map to find a nearby community garden or green initiative where you can swap and donate your seedlings. Didn't start growing seedlings in time? No worries, you can also share seeds, home-made compost, gardening books, or anything related.
Don’t you have anything to share? No worries, Feel free to visit any of the locations, get some plants, connect with fellow gardeners, and/or join a workshop. You can always reciprocate later by saving seeds from the plants you collect and exchange them at Reclaim the Seeds Amsterdam next year!
We hope you join us in making Amsterdam greener and more vibrant. As in previous years, we're teaming up with amazing initiatives like Voedselpark, Cityplot, ASEED, Pluk! CSA, and Reclaim the Seeds to make it happen. Ultimately though, Farmsterdammers is a community driven event so we rely on your enthusiastic planting efforts to make it a success!
As we mentioned above, this will be a really special edition, because we will also be contributing to the Sunflower Protest (#Zonnebloemprotest) created by Voedselpark Amsterdam. And we are really excited about it! The idea is to fill Amsterdam with sunflowers to visibilize the Lutkemeerpolder, the last fertile area in Amsterdam. Did you get sunflowers seeds already? Then make sure to sow them on time, so you can share the plants on Farmsterdammers day. If you didn't get any seeds yet, follow @Zonnebloemprotest. There are many volunteers preparing sunflowers seeds so Amsterdam residents can contribute with this important action. Here it's a map with the locations where you can get envelopes with sunflower seeds to participate in the action: https://buurtgroen020.nl/zonnebloemzaden
Keep in touch and happy gardening!
