Family Well-Being, Social Development, and Social Work in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan, a Central Asian economic powerhouse, is increasingly known as a testing ground for social policy innovation. As it weighs options for social development, what are the nation’s strategies for advancing family well-being and child protection?

On April 16, Distinguished Visiting Scholar Muslim Khassenov, Associate Professor of Law at Maqsut Narikbayev University, will discuss the intersection of innovative policy and emerging reforms in Kazakhstan, exploring the nation’s frameworks for family and child-protection policy, ongoing efforts to modernize social work, and future directions for reform in Kazakhstan.

Aytakin Huseynli, Research Assistant Professor in the WashU Brown School and faculty affiliate of the Center for Social Development, will discuss Kazakhstan’s groundbreaking National Fund for Children policy and its role in the well-being of the nation’s families and children. International Director Li Zou will moderate the event.

This event is organized by the Center for Social Development and supported in part through funding from the Office of the Provost: Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program at Washington University.
