About this Event
In Summer, females glow in the grass to attract their mates. The reserve is a local stronghold for these charismatic creatures, that are in decline nationally due to habitat loss and light pollution.
During this guided walk, expert Alan Stewart will cover the natural history of Glow-Worms, what is affecting their general decline and why this reserve is a stronghold for this species. He will also bring lures to attract the male Glow-worm beetles.
Subject to weather conditions glowing females should be seen.

What to bring: Wear stout walking boots or shoes. The terrain is uneven and there are some slopes. It will get dark so bring a torch. Bring a drink or snack if you wish. There are no toilets on site. Wear warm clothing and water proofs in case of a shower. If the forecast is poor we may cancel at short notice so your contact details are important
Public Transport: No 6 Bus to Deans Gardens stop walk up hill along Hangleton lane to Hangleton Valley Drive turn right and pub is on the left . No bus 47 Hangleton Valley Drive stop Walk down the hill to Hangleton Valley Drive turn left and pub is ahead of you.
Accessibility: some rough paths and slopes so not really accessible for people with mobility issues
This event has been organised by Benfield Wildlife and Conservation Group in partnership with Sussex Wildlife Trust and is free to Sussex Wildlife Trust members.
