Family Learn to Camp at Galveston State Park: Free for Children!

Check in:

Arrive at the park by 9am on Saturday May 2, 2026. Staff
Members at the entry will provide you with a map and
directions to our sites.

Check Out:

Sites must be packed up with all gear returned by 10am on
May 3, 2026. Families may remain in park for the remainder
of the day.

Costs: $25 per adult (up to 4 children free per paying adult). Only purchase tickets for adults 18 and over.

What’s Included:

• Each family will receive free entry into the park and acamping site with water and electricity
• Camping gear: Each family will be provided with :
• 6-person tent
• 2 adult sleeping cots
• 4 sleeping pads for children
• An outdoor stove with pots, pans, and dishes (propane included)
• solar powered lantern

What Each family should bring:

• A pillow and blanket. If you have a sleeping bag, bringit, but purchasing one isn’t necessary.
• Clothing and toiletries you will need for the weekend.
  YES, showers are available!
• Food. You will have a two-burner stove that works just
  like a gas stove in a kitchen. Please bring enough food
  for lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday
  breakfast. You will also have electricity and drinking
  water at your site, so you can bring a coffee maker. It
  would be useful to bring an extension cord.

What you can expect to learn:

• How to pitch your tent. We will have a groupdemonstration on how to assemble your tent and willsupport you as you and your family put up your own.
• How to use your outdoor stove. Connecting the
  propane is doable and you will get a demonstration to
  ensure you’re successsful.
• Leave No Trace Principles. Learn about the principles
  to help protect nature while we explore.
• Park Activities. Join us for a hike, a game of
  geochaching, fishing, and a campfire.
