Make like a plant, and go dormant! Let's get the garden and our bodies ready for the cold winter months ahead.About this Event
Saturday, November 23 | Preparing for Winter in the Garden and Kitchen
- With all the seasonal changes, we may notice that it's also the season of scratchy throats and sniffles. Using honey, apple cider, and herbs from the garden, create your own oxymel--an immune-boosting elixr that helps your body fight off infections.
- What can the garden teach us about rest? Even though many plants are either going dormant or are being harvested, there is so much that goes on below the soil! Help us prepare the garden for winter by planting the last of our Spring wildflower seeds and hardy bulbs as you learn about the importance of dormancy.
- Ever get the winter blues? Create a coping strategy wheel to take for a spin when you need help deciding on an activity that will help get you feeling cozy and cared for.
Food is medicine! Spanning across the Greenhouse Education Center’s learning garden, greenhouse, and kitchen, families are invited to learn the art of gardening, herbalism, and kitchen-skills to support healthy and happy bodies, minds, and hearts. Each week families will be welcomed into this drop-in program to craft their own home remedies, meals, and garden-inspired artworks.
