Is your child bored at home on a day off from school? Join us for a nature-filled day with fun and learning for all ages. This is a one-day program for children ages 5–12, accompanied by an adult of their choice.
Dive into discovery at Family Day - Water Works at Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge!
Join us on Monday, April 6, 2026, for a hands-on family program all about water and the vital role it plays in our environment. Families will explore where water comes from, how it moves through ecosystems, and why it is essential for wildlife and people alike. Through interactive activities, outdoor exploration, and simple experiments, participants will investigate streams, wetlands, and the creatures that depend on clean water to survive.
This engaging event is perfect for families looking to learn together, get outside, and experience the refuge in a whole new way.
What’s Included:
Water Exploration Hike – Head out on the trails with our educators to explore aquatic habitats and discover how animals and plants depend on water.
Hands-On Activities – Conduct fun, age-appropriate experiments and activities that demonstrate how water works in nature.
Campfire Treats – No family day is complete without a sweet reward! Families will gather around the fire* to roast marshmallows and enjoy s’mores provided by Cedar Run. *Fire rating dependent (don’t worry—we’ll do something else fun if a fire isn’t an option!)

Who Can Attend: Children ages 5–12 with at least one accompanying adult. No less than 1 adult per 3 children.
When: Monday, 4/6/26 · 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Cost: $35 for each child and adult pair. Additional children are $15 each and additional adults are $10 each.
Registration: Advance registration required. Spaces are limited!
What to Bring: Comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and a packed lunch to enjoy during the midday break.
