Free online session to consider how to improve mood and motivation, both for yourself, and the person with dementia you support.
About this Event

PLEASE NOTE THESE EVENTS ARE FOR THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH DEMENTIA

Some people with dementia and their supporters feel challenged in finding the motivation to ‘get up and do’. This Mood and Motivation session looks at why that might be, from the perspective of both the carer and the person with dementia.

This session is part of our Dementia Skills Programme. It is essential that you have completed the first module in our Dementia Skills Session training programme, ‘Understanding Dementia Better' providing you with the foundation knowledge you need to get the most out of your Mood and Motivation session. Aimed at family and friends supporting a person living with dementia. You will connect with experienced dementia trainers and other dementia carers to consider how to improve mood and motivation, both for yourself, and the person you support. We will discuss some helpful hints and tips on how to raise mood, build confidence and consider meaningful activities, whilst encouraging the individual to feel happy, safe and secure ‘in the now’.

Our experienced trainers cover:

  • Considering the ‘lived experience’, by hearing tips from people living with dementia
  • Why a person may have low mood
  • Strategies to inspire
  • Working together
  • Communication
  • Group discussion*
  • Resources

*Participation is at the level that you are happy with, we will encourage you to join in, but you are also welcome to join us to listen to the discussion.

The M&M session is 1.5 hours long, with time for questions about individual concerns and to consider possible solutions.

Who Should Attend?

This is suitable for any family member or friend supporting a person living with dementia, who wants to improve confidence in how to pursue meaningful activity.

The session will consider:

  • People diagnosed in the last 18 months.
  • People diagnosed over 18 months ago, who have become less active over the last year and would seek to change that.
  • People who are not active but would like to build that into a new routine.

These sessions are currently aimed at friends and family supporting a loved one with dementia. If you are in paid work supporting people with dementia and would like to attend, please email [email protected] to check if there are any spaces available. For more information about our training, contact us.
