Cornwall RIBA and Cornwall Architectural Trust together with Falmouth University are pleased to present:
Jose Esteves de Matos of De Matos Ryan who will speak about the work of the practice on the theme of ‘low carbon, high joy.’
De Matos Ryan has received numerous awards, including RIBA and Civic Trust recognition. Cultural projects include the reimagining of Young V&A, recipient of Art Fund Museum of the Year 2024 and the Council of Europe Museum Prize 2026; Wonderlab: The Bramall Gallery at the National Railway Museum, awarded RIBA Yorkshire Building of the Year 2025; and work with the British Film Institute (Southbank), ArtsEd (Chiswick), Oriel Myrddin Gallery, Borough Theatre, Canolfan Ucheldre, and Tullie House Museum.
De Matos Ryan is known for creating simple yet imaginative contemporary environments and interventions, often within historically or culturally sensitive settings. The practice works across disciplines, from landscape and interiors to exhibition design. The team believes in architecture’s social and public role in motivating communities, ensuring projects are accessible and engaging for all, whilst promoting sustainability through carbon and energy reduction alongside long-term resilience.

Following the lecture, attendees are invited to the private view and prize-giving at the Architecture Studios at Kathmor and, weather permitting, drinks will be served in the gardens of Kathmor.

Location: Kathmor House, Upper Woodlane Campus Falmouth University TR11 4RH
18:30 Drinks Reception followed by Prize-giving including an award presented by the Falmouth Civic Society and a private view of the exhibition of the work of the BA (Hons) Architecture students.
21:00 Guests Depart
NOTE : The exhibition will remain open to the public 10-4pm every day between 23rd -30th May 2026.
Directions:
Lecture Theatre 1 is located within the Woodlane Campus of Falmouth University.
There is no general parking available on site, however there is free parking on street in the vicinity and the venue is a short distance from several public car parks, the nearest is The Dell.
Blue Badge parking is available by arrangement contact the branch chair.
The Architecture Studio where the Summer Show Exhibition will be held, along with the drinks’ reception is located opposite the entrance to the main campus on the north side of Woodlane. Directions will be signposted on the evening.
