Celebrate the beauty of the autumn season by crafting your very own leaf-shaped platter in our Falling for Fall: Leaf Platter Workshop on Wednesday, September 25th, from 6:30-8:30pm. This handbuilding workshop is perfect for both beginners and seasoned potters looking to create a stunning piece that can be proudly displayed at all your fall gatherings. Depending on the size and detail of carving and painting, you may make between 1-2 platters during the workshop.
What to Expect:
In this workshop, you'll start by rolling out slabs of clay and using molds and leaf templates to shape your platter. You'll learn how to carve into the clay to bring your leaf to life, adding realistic textures like veins and natural edges. This detailed carving will give your platter a truly authentic look, capturing the essence of autumn leaves. Once your platter is shaped, our instructor will guide you through the process of applying colored glazes, teaching you how to layer and blend glazes to enhance the natural beauty of your design with rich, warm hues of the season.
Why Handbuilding?
Handbuilding is an excellent introduction to working with clay, especially for those new to pottery. This technique allows you to create pottery pieces without the need for a pottery wheel, making it accessible and easy to learn. It encourages creativity and a deep connection to the material as you shape and mold the clay with your hands. Whether you're just starting or have experience with pottery, handbuilding offers a fulfilling and meditative way to express your creativity.
Individualized Instruction:
With a class size of only 8 participants, you'll receive personalized attention and support throughout the workshop. Our skilled instructor will be there to guide you at every step, ensuring you feel confident in your handbuilding skills and helping you bring your unique vision to life.
Supplies Needed: None! All tools and clay are provided for including an apron. Please feel free to bring any beverages as this event is BYOB.
