About this Event
Join Reverend Jim Bear Jacobs, along with a group of local mental health professionals, coaches, naturalists and other folks who work with clients outside in nature around the Twin Cities, for an opportunity to learn about Minnesota History from a Native perspective. During the tour we will visit sties located around the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers and experince the sites through story-telling, silence, meditation and reflection. The tour is part of Healing Minnesota Stories, sponsored by the Minnesota Council of Churches (MCC) https://mnchurches.org/what-we-do/healing-minnesota-stories, an effort to create understanding and healing between Native American and non-Native people.
The tour is appropriate for adults and older youth. We will meet at Church of St. Peter, 1405 Sibley Memorial Highway, St. Paul, MN 55120 and auto caravan to the sites. Wear sturdy footwear for walking on uneven surfaces and dirt/gravel paths and dress for the weather so you can be comfortable outside for the duration of the tour. However, if weather is severe we will reschedule. Watch your email if the weather is questionable.
Registration is set up as a donation in order to be able to accomodate a sliding scale of $20 - $60 per person. To cover the expense of paying the guides we need to average $40 per person for about 40 attendees. Please pay what you can. If we collect additional monies over the amount that we pay the guides it will all be donated to Makoce Ikikcupi (Land Recovery) a project of Reparative Justice on Dakota land in Minisota Makoce (Minnesota). See their website for more information. https://makoceikikcupi.com/
Note: This event is open to anyone who wants to come learn in an open and caring community. Feel free to forward this to any colleagues, friends, family, or other loved ones. All are welcome! The event is being organized by Nature Connected Professionals, an open, informal network of folks in the Twin Cities who share a passion for partnering with nature in their work (i.e. therapists, health care providers, wellness/coaching folks, educators, naturalists). We have been meeting seasonally for the past couple of years: sharing experiences and ideas, doing land stewardship projects, forest bathing or nature-based mindfulness together, networking and learning about collaborating with nature as a therapeutic partner in our various fields of work. This Fall we are honored to collaborate with Healing Stories offer this opportunity to learn and reflect together.
