Title of Course: Awareness of Domestic Violence Signs During a Dental Exam
Description of Course:Domestic violence (DV) is a pervasive public-health issue, and dental professionals are often the first healthcare providers to observe signs of abuse. Because injuries frequently occur to the head, neck, and oral regions, dental teams have an ethical and legal opportunity to recognize and respond to red flags during routine care.
This course equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to identify possible indicators of domestic violence, employ trauma-informed communication strategies, and follow proper documentation and referral procedures while maintaining patient trust and confidentiality.
Through evidence-based research, case studies, and state-specific reporting guidelines, participants will develop a systematic approach for responding appropriately and compassionately within their scope of practice.
Objectives:
Recognize physical, behavioral, and situational indicators of domestic violence that may be observed during dental visits.
Differentiate between injuries resulting from accidental trauma and those suggestive of intentional harm. Integrate awareness and prevention strategies into daily dental practice to promote overall patient safety and well-being.
participants: Dental Hygienists, Dentists and Dental Staff
