Plants at the International Space Station have the same needs as our houseplants. This talk will cover the essentials for keeping plants--and their soil--happy, healthy and productive in our homes.
• 10:00 - Garden-Fresh Foods and the Gut Microbiome: Gwynne Mhuireach = Did you know that there may be up to 100 million bacteria living on and inside a single apple? All kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables can harbor a large number of microbes. This talk will cover the results of a USDA-funded study that explored differences between garden-fresh and store-bought produce, as well as their impact on the gut microbiome after consumption.
• 11:00 - Fall gardening for Ornamentals: Laura Eyer
With cooler weather and good moist soil, fall is a good time to fill in garden beds with new plantings, move or transplant shrubs and perennials and mulch your garden beds. And it is a good time to make notes about your garden for next spring, evaluate your garden layout and see if there are any changes you would like to make like transplanting, dividing perennials, or garden restructuring.
