About this Event

This session is October7 - December 30, 2024, 14 weeks from 5:15-5:45PM, daylight savings time and November 4 with standard time change class will meet at 4:45-5:15PM

‘Breath’ is a beautiful gift we are blessed with. It is a tool that is within our control to restore myriads of physiological functions in order to maintain optimal health. In Yoga, the ancient science of therapeutic breathing techniques is called PRANAYAMA. The main purpose of Pranayama is to use our breath to control the fluctuations of the MIND, such as constant mental chatter & mental stress, that are induced by negative emotions like anxiety, depression, anger, fear, etc. By soothing the nervous system with the breathing techniques, we can calm the mind and minimize the vicious cycle of harmful physiological responses in the brain and peripheral organs. Thus, the practice of Pranayama reduces the symptoms of diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, by harmonizing the mind and body.

The ancient Yogic Science is being integrated into Modern Medical Practice in part due to empirical evidence showing the benefits of Yoga in Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. By learning to practice Pranayama through right techniques and integrating it into daily life, a number of benefits could be observed in those with Parkinson’s disease.

SOME OF THE BENEFITS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • Reduce anxiety and depression
  • Help with sleeping disorders
  • Improve alertness and concentration
  • improve memory and cognitive functions
  • Reduce tremor
  • Strengthen the respiratory system, including lung capacity
