About this Event

Join us for a morning of casual birding and being together out in nature in a tiny DC park. Everyone is welcome, especially welcome members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, BIPOC, and women. No prior birding experience necessary.

What: Fall Outing in a neighborhood park

When: 9 - 11 am, Saturday, November 29th

Where: Fort Bunker Hill Park Picnic Area (Intersection of Otis and 14th Street NE)

Meeting Location:

We will be meeting at the Fort Bunker Hill Park Picnic Area. The address is 14th St NE, Washington, DC 20017.

  • Fort Bunker Hill Park is a small neighborhood park in northeast DC. We'll meet at the picnic tables.
  • The trails can get quite steep at times, but we hope to spend most of our time on teh flat parts of the trail. If there is recent rain, the steep parts of the trail may be slippery due to lots of leaves being on the ground. If that happens we will adjust where we go!
  • There are no bathrooms at this location

Getting there:
  • If you are taking the metro, the nearest metro stop is Brookland-CUA on the Red Line. It is about a 11-minute walk from the metro.
  • If you are driving, there is street parking around the neighborhood. Please pay attention to parking signs/restrictions.
  • If you need a ride, please specify in the order form. One of the outing leaders may b able to give you a ride!

Path Information:
  • We don’t have a set route for this event, but we will meander along the available trails at this small neighborhood park at a slow, leisurely pace.
  • Depending on our pace we may walk up to 1 mile. Stay as long or as little as you would like!
  • Some of the trails are very steep, and some of much more flat. The trails are covered in leaves and vary in width. We took a few pics from scoping it out that are further down this page.

Outing Leaders:

For this trip, Vivian Nguyen (she/her), Rachael Mady (she/her), and Nicole Kelly (she/her) will serve as the outing leaders.

Point of Contact:

If you need to get in contact with us day-of, please reach out to the FBC DMV email: [email protected]

Code of Conduct:

Please read the FBC DMV Code of Conduct (opens in new tab) before attending the event. The Feminist Bird Club stands by a core set of Principles and the Code of Conduct is meant to explicitly place those principles into practice, lay out what behavior is and is not acceptable from our members, participants, and our leaders, and detail how we will work to enforce those principles. We have added a new link that allows anyone to anonymously report if there is a Code of Conduct violation or concerns about past behavior of a member, event participant, or leader.

Liability Waiver:

When you arrive, we will ask you to sign in and agree to our liability waiver.

Why a liability waiver? We are not a registered non-profit, and as such do not have liability insurance. This is our version of insurance for our outing leaders.

Other Important Info:
  • Bring and drink water during the outing to stay hydrated, consider wearing sunscreen, and check the weather to make sure you have enough layers to stay warm.
  • Bring your own binoculars and bird books if you'd like although not necessary. We'll have at least five pairs of binoculars to lend out.
  • Masks are not required, but we encourage everyone to physically distance when possible and to wear a mask if they need or want to.
  • If you are under 18 years old, you must be accompanied by an adult to partake in the event.

Image description: Two images of the trail. The first shows a forest flower covered in leaves. The trail is marked by a few fallen logs on the left and. there are trees with green, orange, yellow, and brown leaves all throughout the image. The second showw a narrower path, still a leaf-covered trail, with a wooden step across the middle and fallen log on the left.
