About this Event
Join together with other local family ministry pastors and leaders as we carve out space to hear from one another and share our hopes and challenges in ministry.
This year's keynote on Understanding How Suicidality Develops and Learning How to Respond was chosen as a response to a desire from our learning community to be better equipped to walk alongside struggling youth and their families.
Dr. Keyne Law is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at SPU. Her research primarily focuses on examining the dynamic changes and interplay between ecological, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and biological systems that facilitate the development of suicidal thoughts and the progression into lethal suicidal behavior. Dr. Law’s existing body of research integrates a diverse range of measurements such as self-report questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, pain tolerance tasks, behavioral tasks, and psychophysiology. She is also passionate towards innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance research in the field of clinical psychology. Outside of her research activity, Dr. Law also engages in a number of community outreach projects focusing on suicide awareness and prevention. She will walk participants through creating a saftey plan and you will leave this event with some practical tools to implement in your place of ministry.
We recognize that the topic of suicide is heavy and likely has impacted every person to varying degrees. In addition to the weight of this topic, this event also occurs the same week as the presidential election. Our hope is to create a welcoming space where we can gather as a learning community and share not only our joys in ministry but our sorrows as well. There will be a space in the room next door to step out and people available to pray.
