🌸 Faith and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG): Navigating Cultural Sensitivity, Human Rights, and Social Change
Talk by Vandana Aparanti
📅 Sunday, 9th November
🕡 6:30 PM
📍 Secular Hall, 75 Humberstone Gate, Leicester (LE1 1WB)
🎙️ Hosted by Leicester Secular Society
Join us for a thought-provoking talk with Vandana Aparanti, a lifelong advocate for women and girls affected by gender-based violence.
Vandana will explore how faith and culture intersect with violence against women and girls — and how religious institutions can both perpetuate and help prevent harm. Drawing on her extensive professional experience, she will discuss the importance of engaging faith communities to challenge harmful practices, uphold human rights, and promote gender equality.
The talk will also highlight how caste dynamics influence gender-based violence, and why caste must be recognised as a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010 — a cause Vandana continues to campaign for passionately.
☕️ All welcome – admission free, with tea & biscuits provided.
💜 Donations encouraged to support the volunteer-led Leicester Secular Society. Your contributions help cover venue costs, refreshments, and future programming.
🕊 A vital conversation about faith, culture, caste, and social change — within a secular and rights-based framework.
