About this Event
The first of many outings to begin the year.
This hike takes us through panoramic bluff-top views of the Pacific Ocean and down to a protected ecological reserve featuring rocky shores, sandy beaches, sea caves, and some of Southern California’s most accessible tide pools. This is an ideal outing for nature lovers, photography enthusiasts, and those looking for a mix of steep, adventurous, and scenic trails.
- Distance: Approx. 1–2 miles depending on how much you explore (loop/out-and-back options)
- Time: Allow 2–3 hours
- Difficulty: Moderate (due to steep, sometimes slippery, dirt trails descending to the beach)
🌟 Highlights
- Tide Pooling: Explore rocky tide pools filled with sea anemones, sea stars, and urchins (best at low tide).
- Sea Caves: Discover two unique sea caves, including one in the "Sacred Cove" area.
- Scenic Views: Panoramic, postcard-worthy views of Catalina Island and the coastline.
- Wildlife Viewing: Keep an eye out for migrating whales (December–April), dolphins, harbor seals, and seabirds like pelicans and egrets.
