Flute professor, Immanuel Davis and collaborative piano professor, Timothy Lovelace, are presenting a spring recital that will feature the premiere of George Handy's "Caine Flute Sonata". George Handy (1920 – 1997) was an American jazz arranger, composer and pianist whose musical beginnings were fostered under the tutelage of composer Aaron Copland. While he had an impressive career as a pianist, he is best known in retrospect for his bebop arrangements. The flute sonata is his only fully written out "classical" piece. This School of Music event is free and open to the public. A livestream will be available at z.umn.edu/musicstream (click on the Lloyd Ultan Recital Hall events in the right callout box).
