Fabric 101: What, Why, How-to-Find Fabric
What is fabric? More than color or pattern, what are the keys to finding exactly the fabrics you want?
Join us for a comprehensive introduction to fabric as we feel our way through 30+ different silks, cottons, wools and synthetics to answer all these questions and more, including an exploration of qualities like opacity, shine and stretch.
This class is a great resource for anyone new to or just curious about the world of fabric. Fashion students of all ages and backgrounds, theatre students interested in set and costume design, artists curious to dabble in mixed media; home sewers looking to maximize a yearly trip to the Garment District; genuinely anyone who wears fabric will find something to learn and enjoy in our hands-on class.
Students will also have an opportunity to create their own 5-10 piece body swatch books demonstrating fabric behavior across weights and constructions, as a complement to their provided copy of .
