Noah Porter (he/him) is a filmmaker and music video director who has spent the last decade bringing songs to life on film. Raised in Portland, OR on a steady diet of MTV, he recognized new frontiers for the medium as rappers like Lil B and Tyler The Creator began self-publishing music videos on YouTube and virality became the primary force shaping the landscape of the music industry.
Noah's music videos have been viewed over six million times on Youtube, although some percentage of those were probably illegitimate for various marketing-related reasons. He doesn’t think it’s a big percentage though. He was solely responsible for backing up the footage on Kelly Reichardt’s 2020 film “First Cow”. When he met Andre 3000 he asked the rapper-turned-flautist if his verse on the Devin The Dude song “What A Job” was a true story. It was.
"Eyes and Ears" is curated by Bijan Berahimi and co-curated with Noah Porter and Kristin Rogers Brown. The inspiration for the show comes from Berahimi’s personal love of music and desire to create space for this new era of visuals in music, as well as a recognition that this curation of work from the past four years is too often seen in the context of fleeting social media feeds. This exhibition provides a platform for the creatives working in music now, and inspire the community around it.
We can’t wait to chat with Noah about music, film, design, and hear more stories from his creative practice!
